NEW DELHI: Washington Sundar expressed his determination to give his all to secure the all-rounder’s spot in India’s T20 squad. The position became available after Ravindra JadejaThe withdrawal of this format.
Jadeja’s decision to step away from T20 cricket came after India’s recent success at the T20 World Cup. In the ongoing five-match series against Zimbabwe, Washington has showcased his abilities and has strongly positioned himself as a potential replacement for Jadeja.
“I have to do well in what I am good at and what I am capable of, especially in my preparation. I have to give 100 per cent every day. That is something I have not compromised on,” Washington was quoted as saying by PTI in the post-match presser of the third T20 on Wednesday.
The Tamil Nadu pacer showed his bowling prowess in the third ODI against Zimbabwe on Wednesday. His impressive 4-over spell, in which he conceded just 15 runs and picked up 3 crucial wickets, played a pivotal role in India’s 23-run win over the hosts.
Washington’s outstanding performance earned him the well-deserved Man of the Match award. His contributions were instrumental in helping India take a 2-1 lead in the series, putting them in a commanding position with two games remaining.
“(Preparing well) keeps me in the present and obviously I am very confident (in my abilities) as well. It is a great opportunity for me to play for India and I am blessed by it,” he added.
Washington is striving to improve his skills to maintain his position in the Indian cricket team. He faces tough competition from players like Axar Patelwho was India’s leading spinner during the T20 World Cup, Washington recognises the need to continually improve his game to secure a place in the team.
“I have to keep up my work constantly, keep preparing and keep improving. That way, everything will be resolved,” he said.
