Ondangwa United leads the Oshikoto regional league

OPUWO – Ondangwa United edged out closest title rivals Mama Love 2-1 on Saturday to extend their lead at the top of the Oshikoto Regional League to seven points.

Ondangwa’s boys are on the verge of winning the league title.

With just four games left in the season, they now need two wins from their remaining four matches to be crowned champions.

Mama Love could not stop Ondangwa United from losing crucial points and second place to Gerrros Uri-Khob Football Academy, who thrashed Newcastle United 3-0 in the Tsumeb derby on Saturday at the Oscar Norich Stadium.

Benfica also claimed a vital win to keep them safe from relegation after beating Omandengu United 1-0 in Tsumeb.

Young Rangers and Nine Eleven played out a goalless draw, while Soweto Chiefs’ relegation concerns were heightened after a 2-1 defeat to Onathinge United.

Young United fought tooth and nail to avoid the relegation zone after beating Safile United 3-0. On Sunday, Newcastle United drew 1-1 against Nine Eleven, with Benfica beating Onathinge United 3-1, while Soweto Chiefs beat Young Rangers 3-0 in their bid to climb out of the relegation zone.

Young United and Omandengu United played out a goalless draw in Sunday’s final encounter.

With some teams having played 18 matches and others 17 matches so far, Ondangwa United lead the group with 41 points, followed by Gerros Uri-Khob Football Academy with 34 points.

Mama Love is in third place with 34 points, followed by Newcastle United in fourth place with 33 points and Nine Eleven (5) with 28 points.
