KPA worker in hospital after acid attack in Likoni

Police are investigating an incident in which a Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) employee was attacked with acid in Likoni, Mombasa.

The employee is admitted to the hospital with serious burns after the incident on Wednesday night.

The motive for the attack is still unknown, police said.

The employee attached to the Ferry Services security department told the police that he had left work and crossed to Likoni before taking a motorcycle to his home in the Almirage area around 9pm.

On the way, two other men on a motorcycle overtook them.

He said the motorcycle had followed them for a while.

That’s when one of them threw a chemical substance into the passenger’s face from close range.

This occurred after the passenger carrying the KPA worker was blocked.

His face was burned and he was then rushed to Shelly Beach Hospital before being transferred to the Aga Khan in Mombasa, police say. He was admitted in stable condition.

The suspects, the driver and his passenger, headed to an unknown destination.

Police said they still do not know who the attackers were or their motive.

A search is underway for the two, Coastal Police Chief George Sedah said.

Meanwhile, Police are investigating an incident in which a group of hoodlums raided a construction site in Nairobi and stole construction materials on Riverside Drive.

The group of about 20 had arrived at the site of the Divine Residence and held five guards on duty captive.

All five guards were injured in Thursday night’s drama.

Witnesses said two of the guards were armed with AK47 rifles, while others had crude weapons.

They stole an assortment of construction materials of unknown value that they were transporting in a truck whose license plate is still unknown.

The hoodlums also stole CCTV cameras and footage from the spot before escaping.

Police visited the scene and announced that investigations had been opened to pursue the attackers.

Police are reviewing CCTV footage from neighboring houses and roads to get details about the thugs.
