Laporta ‘not convinced’ of Márquez as Barcelona close in on Flick

Rafa Marquez’s hopes of succeeding Xavi as Barcelona coach appear to be fading as Joan Laporta simply isn’t sold on the Mexican.

The Barcelona Atletic coach and Hansi Flick appear to be the favorites to replace Xavi if he is sacked, but the German appears to be in pole position at the moment.

Flick is even said to have a verbal agreement with Barcelona, with a decision on Xavi’s future expected after Sunday’s game against Sevilla.

Diari ARA reports that Laporta simply does not see Márquez as the right man for Barcelona, although Deco believes he is a candidate.

Márquez cannot be ruled out yet, but there is no doubt that “he has not completely convinced Laporta” despite having done a good job with Barça Atlético, who has reached the play-offs.

Interestingly, Márquez could end up following Xavi out of the club this summer. The Mexican’s contract expires at the end of June and at the moment there are no signs of an extension.
