Abuja Metro Rail will run free for two months

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has revealed that the Abuja Light Rail will operate free of charge for two months, following its commissioning on Monday, May 27, 2024.

Wike stated this during the ongoing Ministerial Sector Update to commemorate the first year in office of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, held at the Radio House in Abuja, on Thursday.

Earlier, the Minister had stated that President Bola Tinubu will launch the Metro project for commercial activities on Monday.

However, he urged residents to start using the Metro rails from Tuesday, May 28, adding that the goal was to make it easier for residents to get around and that the President could extend free train travel for up to 6 months. .

The Minister also said that the FCT Administration will begin the construction of 10,000 affordable housing units labeled as City of Renewed Hope from the year 2025.

Also expected to hold briefings today are Youth Development Minister Jamilo Bio Ibrahim and Transport Minister Sa’Idu Ahmed Alkali.
